1.hello everyone,my topic of the speech for today is "city life and country life".
why do people choose to live in the cities today?the reason is:in the cities,we have more opportunities.in cities there are many shops.there is no problem if you need to buy something.if it isn"t in one shop you can go to another one.in the village there are usually only few shops and even the only one with the necessary foods.but cities aren"t only centres of shopping but there are also many offices.of course all the good schools are in cities.people in the cities can find a now job more easily than people in the country.after all,a job opportunity is one of the most important reasons why to move to the city.but many people from cities say they would love living in the country.i agree with them.
2.many citizens like to live in the city.city folks like the conveniences and comforts of the big city.it is convenient to get around in the city by bus or ta_icab.there are many ta_icabs in most cities.
cities have many schools for children, young people and adults.adults can go to class at night to learn to read and write better, and to be trained for better jobs.every large city has at least one college.adults as well as young people have the chance to go to college.
citizens of cities have convenient medical services.there are many good doctors to give these medical services.there are many policemen in the cities.the police protect the citizens.
the city has many kinds of entertainment.there are film shows, plays, concerts, parades, and many other kinds of entertainment.there are many places to visit.many adults like the entertainment and comforts found in a city.
but some of our citizens like the country better.they say the country has many comforts, too.most homes in the country have electricity.they have electric ice bo_es and electric stoves.the country has many more conveniences and comforts than it once had.
the country has space for people to do things.people who live in the country have space to plant flowers and space to keep animals.some people like to have space in which they can move around freely.
people in the country get lots of e_ercise when they work on the land.children get lots of e_ercise by working or riding their bicycles to school.in the country there are fewer accidents and people do not need so many policemen to protect them.living in the country is clean and quiet.
where would you rather live,in the city or country?

the president: hello everybody, and happy holidays.
the first lady: we know how busy this time of year is for everyone, so we’re not going totake much of your time.
but we did want to take a moment to wish you all a merry christmas, from our family to yours.
the president: this is a season for millions of americans to be together with family, tocontinue long-held holiday traditions, and to show our gratitude to those we love. and alongthe way, some of us might even watch a little basketball or eat some christmas cookies, too.
the first lady: here at the white house, over the past few weeks, we’ve had about 70,000people from all across the country come visit us and look at our holiday decorations.
this year’s theme was “gather around: stories of the season.”
and in every room of the house, we tried to tell a story about who we are as americans and howwe celebrate the holidays together.
and we made certain to highlight some of the most powerful stories we know—the stories ofour outstanding troops, veterans, and military families and their service and sacrifice for ourcountry.
the president: our e_traordinary men and women in uniform are serving so that therest of us can enjoy the blessings we cherish during the holidays. but that means many of ourtroops are far from home and far from family. they’re spending some e_tra time on the phonewith their loved ones back home. or they’re setting up video chats so they can watch as thepresents are opened. so today, we want all of our troops to know that you’re in our thoughtsand prayers this holiday season.
and here’s the good news: for many of our troops and newest veterans, this might be the firsttime in years that they’ve been with their families on christmas. in fact, with the iraq war overand the transition in afghanistan, fewer of our men and women in uniform are deployed inharm’s way than at any time in the last decade.
the first lady: and that’s something we all can be thankful for.
and with more and more of our troops back here at home, now it’s our turn to serve—it’s ourturn to step up and show our gratitude for the military families who have given us so much.
and that’s why jill biden and i started our joining forces initiative—to rally all americans tosupport our military families in ways large and small.
and again and again, we have been overwhelmed by the response we’ve gotten as folks fromacross the country have found new ways to give back to these families through their schools, businesses, and houses of worship.
the president: that’s the same spirit of giving that connects all of us during the holidays.so many people all across the country are helping out at soup kitchens, buying gifts for childrenin need, or organizing food or clothing drives for their neighbors. for families like ours, thatservice is a chance to celebrate the birth of christ and live out what he taught us – to love ourneighbors as we would ourselves; to feed the hungry and look after the sick; to be our brother’skeeper and our sister’s keeper. and for all of us as americans, regardless of our faith, those arevalues that can drive us to be better parents and friends, better neighbors and better citizens.
the first lady: so as we look to the new year, let’s pledge ourselves to living out thosevalues by reaching out and lifting up those in our communities who could use a hand up.
the president: so merry christmas, everyone. and from the two of us, as well as malia, sasha, grandma, bo…
the first lady: and sunny, the newest obama.
the president: we wish you all a blessed and safe holiday season.
the first lady: happy holidays everybody, and god bless.

i once knew someone who spent a year in a plaster cast recovering from an operation onhis back. he read a lot, and thought a lot, and felt miserable.
later, he realised this time of forced retreat from the world had helped him to understandthe world more clearly.
we all need to get the balance right between action and reflection. with so manydistractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock. be it through contemplation, prayer, or even keeping a diary, many have found the practice of quiet personal reflectionsurprisingly rewarding, even discovering greater spiritual depth to their lives.
reflection can take many forms. when families and friends come together at christmas, it’soften a time for happy memories and reminiscing. our thoughts are with those we have lovedwho are no longer with us. we also remember those who through doing their duty cannot be athome for christmas, such as workers in essential or emergency services.
and especially at this time of year we think of the men and women serving overseas in ourarmed forces. we are forever grateful to all those who put themselves at risk to keep us safe.
service and duty are not just the guiding principles of yesteryear; they have an enduringvalue which spans the generations.
i myself had cause to reflect this year, at westminster abbey, on my own pledge ofservice made in that great church on coronation day si_ty years earlier.
the anniversary reminded me of the remarkable changes that have occurred since thecoronation, many of them for the better; and of the things that have remained constant, suchas the importance of family, friendship and good neighbourliness.
but reflection is not just about looking back. i and many others are looking forward to thecommonwealth games in glasgow ne_t year.
the baton relay left london in october and is now the other side of the world, on its wayacross seventy nations and territories before arriving in scotland ne_t summer. its journey is areminder that the commonwealth can offer us a fresh view of life.
my son charles summed this up at the recent meeting in sri lanka. he spoke of thecommonwealth’s “family ties” that are a source of encouragement to many. like any familythere can be differences of opinion. but however strongly they’re e_pressed they are heldwithin the common bond of friendship and shared e_periences.
here at home my own family is a little larger this christmas.
as so many of you will know, the arrival of a baby gives everyone the chance tocontemplate the future with renewed happiness and hope. for the new parents, life will neverbe quite the same again!
as with all who are christened, george was baptised into a joyful faith of christian dutyand service. after the christening, we gathered for the traditional photograph.
it was a happy occasion, bringing together four generations.
in the year ahead, i hope you will have time to pause for moments of quiet reflection. asthe man in the plaster cast discovered, the results can sometimes be surprising.
for christians, as for all people of faith, reflection, meditation and prayer help us torenew ourselves in god’s love, as we strive daily to become better people. the christmasmessage shows us that this love is for everyone. there is no one beyond its reach.
on the first christmas, in the fields above bethlehem, as they sat in the cold of nightwatching their resting sheep, the local shepherds must have had no shortage of time forreflection. suddenly all this was to change. these humble shepherds were the first to hearand ponder the wondrous news of the birth of christ - the first noel - the joy of which wecelebrate today.
i wish you all a very happy christmas.

good morning. on this christmas eve, laura and i send our best wishes to families across america as you gather in your homes to celebrate the holiday. christmas is a time of joy and peace, and we hope the holiday season brings all of you happy reunions with families and friends, and time to rest and reflect as you look forward to a new year. at christmas, we give thanks for the gift of the birth of christ, and for the blessings that surround us every day of the year.
in this great and prosperous land, we have so much to be thankful for, and christmas reminds us of our obligation to share these blessings with others. there are many among us who are hurting and require a helping hand. in the new year, i hope americans will look for ways to volunteer your time and talents where they are needed most. by reaching out to a neighbor in need, we make our nation a more just and compassionate place.
this christmas, we remember our fellow citizens who suffered from the hurricanes and other disasters that struck our nation this past year. we pray for their strength as they continue to recover and rebuild their lives and their communities.
during the holiday season and throughout the year, we think with pride of the men and women of our armed forces, who are keeping our nation safe and defending freedom around the world.
in iraq, afghanistan, and elsewhere, they are protecting our liberty by spreading liberty to others, and all americans are grateful to our troops for their courage and commitment.
we re also grateful to their families. staying behind when a family member goes to war is a heavy burden -- and it s particularly hard at christmas. we pray for our military families; we ask almighty god to bestow his protection and care on their loved ones as they protect our nation from grave dangers.
we also remember the heroic men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation s freedom. we pray that god will comfort the loved ones they left behind. the sacrifices of these brave troops have rescued millions from lives of tyranny and sorrow, and made america more secure. we will always cherish the memory of each of our fallen servicemen and women, and count it a privilege to be citizens of the country they served.
the times we live in have brought many challenges to our country. and at such times, the story of christmas brings special comfort and confidence. christmas reminds us that we can trust in god s promise of peace on earth and goodwill toward men. on a night more than 2,000 years ago, an angel of the lord brought good tidings of great joy: the god of heaven had come to earth, and he would be with us always.
thank you for listening, and merry christmas.

every year, this christmas party is held for the children of the people living in the mews ofbuckingham palace. everyone seems to be enjoying it. usually, we"re lucky with the weather, but tonight it seems a bit more like a typical english winter. the children have been waiting forthe usual buildup of e_citement and e_pectation for father christmas to arrive, no doubt, wondering what he"s brought with him in his sack.
for the children, the party and the meeting with father christmas are perhaps the moste_citing part of the evening.
but i hope that a walk through the stables also helps to bring the traditional story alive forthem. i hope it also helps them to realise how fortunate they are to have comfortable homesand warm beds to go to, unlike the holy family, who had to share with the animals becausethere was no room at the inn.
christmas is a festival for all christians, but it is particularly a festival for children. as we allknow, it commemorates the birth of a child, who was born to ordinary people, and who grew upvery simply in his own small home town and was trained to be a carpenter.
his life thus began in humble surroundings, in fact, in a stable, but he was to have aprofound influence on the course of history, and on the lives of generations of his followers.you don"t have to be rich or powerful in order to change things for the better and each of us inour own way can make a contribution.
the infant jesus was fortunate in one very important respect. his parents were loving andconsiderate. they did their utmost to protect him from harm. they left their own home andbecame refugees to save him from king herod, and they brought him up according to thetraditions of their faith.
on this birthday festival, which we try to make an occasion of happiness for our own families,we must not forget those children who are the victims of ill treatment or neglect.
it is no easy task to care for and bring up children, whatever your circumstances – whether youare famous or quite unknown. but we could all help by letting the spirit of christmas fill ourhomes with love and care and by heeding our lord"s injunction to treat others as you wouldlike them to treat you.
when, as the bible says, christ grew in wisdom and understanding, he began his task ofe_plaining and teaching just what it is that god wants from us.
the two lessons that he had for us, which he underlined in everything he said and did, are themessages of god"s love and how essential it is that we, too, should love other people.
there are many serious and threatening problems in this country and in the world, but theywill never be solved until there is peace in our homes and love in our hearts.
the message which god sent us by christ"s life and e_ample is a very simple one, even thoughit seems so difficult to put into practice.
to all of you, of every faith and race, i send my best wishes for a time of peace and tranquilitywith your families at this festival of christmas. a very happy christmas to you all.

merry christmas and happy holidays. i am mike crapo and i represent the people of the greatstate of idaho in the united states senate.
this season is a time to gather with loved ones and celebrate the birth of our savior, jesuschrist. an important part of christmas is remembering our father"s love. god loved us so verymuch that he sent his son to earth so that we may better understand that love.
as we love and care for our families, strive to protect them, and always no matter how grownour children get, long for what is best for them, we can start to grasp the magnitude of god"slove and reflect it not only throughout the christmas season, but also every day. for manyfamilies, this time of year is when children learn charity and service to others, and realize thatgiving to others, is always more important than receiving.
for those of different faiths, including those who choose not to observe a higher power or anyreligious faith, this season is observed with many different traditions. the season is a reminderof one of our greatest american values ensured by our constitution: the freedom of religion.many families spend the holidays volunteering to serve others in our communities. thediversity of our celebration is part of the magic of christmas. it brings people together in somany different ways, especially in service to others.
we all know people in our communities who are making good things happen. they reach out tothose who are hurting, shelter those without and demonstrate e_amples of selfless servicethroughout our great nation. many devote countless hours to lessening the burdens of others.to all those giving americans serving others, please know that you are setting lastinge_amples. acts as seemingly small as caring words or holding a door generate a current ofkindness. thank you, for your love and the kindness you share.
as we gather together with our loved ones this christmas, let us not forget to take time toenjoy the little and the big things more: the joy in the eyes of children; the laughs of friendsand family; the snow-covered trees; the food on our tables; clean water and heat – and all themany other blessings we have as americans.
this year, we have witnessed, both abroad and at home, the real threats to our way of life. yetin the face of these unspeakable acts of terror, men and women still selflessly volunteerthemselves to defend families, neighbors, communities and our nation. thank you, to all ourfirst responders and law enforcement officers who serve in the face of evil. and to the men andwomen of our military, many of whom are far from home right now missing their families andthe joys of this holiday season, we thank you. your sacrifice and dedication to your country isa debt we can never fully repay. the men and women of our military routinely give so much ofthemselves so that the rest of us, as a nation, can remain free. and to the families, the many, many military families across this country, who set an e_tra place at their tables in honor of aloved one deployed in the service of our nation, we thank you. you too bear the cost of ourfreedoms and protection of americans at home and abroad.
for many, 2024 has been a year of great challenges and impactful events. the terrorist attacksand the continued struggle of millions across america and around the world are a glaringreminder that we cannot take our well-being for granted. as this year draws to a close, i hopethat those who have struggled will find optimism in the dawn of a new year. these challengeswill unite us and our compassion will match our strength.
we live in a beautiful world with some very dark corners. i pray that more light can be shedinto the dark corners throughout this christmas season and the year ahead and that god"s lovecan be felt and reflected in every corner of our hearts, of our country and the world.
god bless you all and merry christmas.

the word"chrismas" is derived from the word "christ mass" the celebration of the birth of jesus christ. now we are gonging to talk about some traditional customs in the western countries. people usually place a christmas tree, wich is decorated with colorful lights sweets and gifts,in their living rooms at christmas.in northern europe, the trees that remained green throughout the year were worshipped as symbols of eternal life.it is said that mistletoe, hung up as a christmas decoration, allow you to kiwhoever you like underneath it.a tele tells that balder the sun god,was killed by an arrow of mistletoe made by the god of evil ,loki.balder, however, was bought back to life, and the mistletoe was told never to harmbalder again.perhaps for this reason the mistletoe become a symbol of love and reconciliation. good evening , ladies and gentlemen . i am joy and glad to give you a speech about stre, yes , just the topic you see on the screen. psychologist tell us that streis a state of worry caused by the problem of living , such as too much work or study , heavy responsibilities , and quickened pace of life . statistics show that strecomes from every detail in our life . financial problems , poor health , being laid off may be the strethat most adults now suffering . as students in the university , we are also under our special stre. while study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us . and the things make us felt stressed may be our parents’s greater e_pectations on us than we could reach . later , when we are likely to graduate , some other problems will also annoy us . i think we will worry a lot about our ability to compete in the job market and how we can best use what we’ve learned at college in our future job . the chief problem we should face to is our atitude towards stre.people usually say they can not live in the sun e_cept they escape from stre. it’s unwelcome ! yes , however , very necessary . just image a world where stredoes not e_ist and people lead their life in a very comfortable way . but is this kind of living condition as perfect as we hope ? without stre, they may feel very satisfied with the current life but lack of power to discover new things . too much satisfaction result in nothing e_cept a countermarch of the society . no stre, no development . so a certain amount of streis good . it can stimulate us and increase our level of alertne. and our answer to streis another vital problem . how to do with ourselves when stresuddenly break into our life ? to wave the white flag and admit our unability , to give up to our ideality , or worstly , just to suicide as to put an end to everything … of cause not . the principle is to tackle with stregentlely and harmoniously. we should try our best to release ourselves . such as to do some e_ercise , to linsen to traditional chinese music or classical music to ease our minds and to learn to view these changes of life as challenges .it’s no use crying over spilt milk . only to accept what has happened can solve the problem .

in summer of 2024, public officials in our province of saskatchewan issued a decree: that allaffected people leave their homes and in mass e_odus, travel to places of refuge where theycould be safe and accounted for.
they were escaping blazing forest fires of epic proportions.
it was the largest evacuation in saskatchewan history.
thousands of people were on the move, all of them in uncertain circumstances, not knowinghow quickly they would return home.
for a few young women, these circumstances had an added dimension of uncertainty. theywere in the late stages of pregnancy.
these young women were living as displaced persons far from home, without the supplies theyhad gathered for their new baby.
thankfully, for all concerned, healthy babies were delivered in hospitals close by with medicalstaff to give assistance.
we are privileged to live in a province where people come together. that can be difficult whenstress levels are high.
and so i salute the evacuees, and the firefighters, and the troops, and the red cross, and thelocal officials, the mayors and chiefs.
those who shared money, food and supplies, those who prayed for an ending to this situation.all rose to the occasion.
two thousand years ago, a public official named caesar augustus issued a decree that all peopleneeded to be accounted for. it affected the entire roman world. everyone needed to beregistered.
many people were on the move, with primitive travel arrangements, not knowing how long thiswould take.
i"m sure for some young women, this circumstance had an added dimension of uncertainty.like being in the late stages of pregnancy.
for one of these young women, the time came to have her baby, her first. not in a local hospitalalong the way, not even in a clean, comfortable holiday inn, but in a stable, with precious fewamenities.
her only assistant, a most likely very, very nervous husband, with perhaps some curiousanimals looking on.
she didn"t have much for supplies either. all she had were a few strips of cloth to wrap him in.and all she could lay him in was not a cradle made by her carpenter husband, but just asimple, dirty manger.
crude surroundings for a king. his first visitors – an adoring group in from the fields smellingstrongly of sheep. they were alerted by a type of atmospheric media unlike any we couldimagine.
all rose to the occasion.
this christmas, we celebrate the arrival of that very special baby boy. the "divinest heart thatever walked the earth was born on that day" as it has been said.
his name is jesus, the essence of hope and peace and the ultimate e_ample of self-sacrificefor love.
so from me and my wife tami, and our family, and on behalf of my colleagues in thegovernment of saskatchewan: "may you have the gladness of christmas which is hope; thespirit of christmas which is peace; and the heart of christmas which is love."
and may you spread joy to others who need it most. merry christmas and a happy new year!

it was one of the last days before christmas, and the as sistants in the large store had their hands full serving eager christmas shoppers.
at one counter an old lady was choosing gloves red ones for her daugher in law, light blue ones for her niece, pink ones for her grand daughter, green ones for her sister and by the time she had found what she wanted, the counter was covered with pairs of all colors and sizes.
when the salesgirl had finally written out the bill and was about to turn to the ne_t customer with a tired voice. "thank you very much, madam," the old lady suddenly cried out, "oh, i almost forgot..."——"anything else, madam?" said the girl, "yes," began the old lady, "i"d like to buy another pair, but i" m not quite sure about what e_actly i should cloose. i wonder if you could help me." "certainly, madam", was the girl"s reply. the old lady then went on to e_plain that what she was looking for was a pair of gloves for a girl of her age. she was not at ail sure what color to choose, and the design was a problem too.
the tired girl did her best to help the old lady make up her mind, showing her ail kinds of gloves.
at last the chosen pair of gloves were wrapped up and paid for as well, and as the girl was about to turn to the ne_t customer, the old lady handed her a little parcel and said, "these now, dear, these are for you and thank you for being so patient. i do hope you have a merry christmas !"

fellow south africans,
we are nearing the end of another momentous year in the history of our young democracy.
this year has taken us closer to the achievement of a non-racial, non-se_ist, democraticsouth africa in which all of us, black and white, can live in peace, harmony and prosperity.
this is a time when we should collectively reflect on the progress made during the year andcommit ourselves further to address the challenges that face our country and its people.
we do so with a view to consolidating the gains we have thus far made while sparing neitherstrength nor effort in confronting the challenges facing our country, which are poverty, unemployment and inequality.
in a difficult global economic environment, we have been working very hard to strengthenour economy through investment in infrastructure, providing support to key industrial sectors, and developing our agricultural value chain.
working together, we have stabilised the supply of electricity to our homes, to our schools, hospitals, factories and businesses.
working together again with our key role players in labour, business, communities andgovernment, we have made significant progress towards the introduction of a national minimumwage as one of the key mechanisms that will enable us to reduce income inequality.

hi, and merry christmas. i’m honored to have the chance to speak with you and your familythis year.
recently, we learned that our governments, working in concert, have created a system ofworldwide mass surveillance, watching everything we do.
great britain’s george orwell warned us of the danger of this kind of information. the typesof collection in the book—microphones and video cameras, tvs that watch us—are nothingcompared to what we have available today. we have sensors in our pockets that track useverywhere we go.
think about what this means for the privacy of the average person. a child born today willgrow up with no conception of privacy at all. they’ll never know what it means to have aprivate moment to themselves—an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought. and that’s a problem, because privacy matters. privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we wantto be.
the conversation occurring today will determine the amount of trust we can place both inthe technology that surrounds us and the government that regulates it. together, we can find abetter balance, end mass surveillance and remind the government that if it really wants toknow how we feel, asking is always cheaper than spying.
for everyone out there listening, thank you, and merry christmas.

ladies and gentleman,on this christmas eve, laura and i send our best wishes to families across america as you gather in your homes to celebrate the holiday.christmas is a time of joy and peace, and we hope the holiday season brings all of you happy reunions with families and friends, and time to rest and reflect as you look forward to a new year.
at christmas,we give thanks for the gift of the birth of christ, and for the blessings that surround us every day of the year.in this great and prosperous land,we have so much to be thankful for,and christmas reminds us of our obligation to share these blessings with others.there are many among us who are hurting and require a helping hand.in the new year,i hope americans will look for ways to volunteer your time and talents where they are needed most.by reaching out to a neighbor in need,we make our nation a more just and compassionate place.
this christmas,we remember our fellow citizens who suffered from the hurricanes and other disasters that struck our nation this past year.we pray for their strength as they continue to recover and rebuild their lives and their communities.
during the holiday season and throughout the year,we think with pride of the men and women of our armed forces, who are keeping our nation safe and defending freedom around the world.in iraq, afghanistan, and elsewhere, they are protecting our liberty by spreading liberty to others, and all americans are grateful to our troops for their courage and commitment.
we re also grateful to their families.staying behind when a family member goes to war is a heavy burden -- and it s particularly hard at christmas.we pray for our military families; we ask almighty god to bestow his protection and care on their loved ones as they protect our nation from grave dangers.
we also remember the heroic men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation s freedom.we pray that god will comfort the loved ones they left behind.the sacrifices of these brave troops have rescued millions from lives of tyranny and sorrow, and made america more secure.we will always cherish the memory of each of our fallen servicemen and women, and count it a privilege to be citizens of the country they served.
the times we live in have brought many challenges to our country.and at such times, the story of christmas brings special comfort and confidence.christmas reminds us that we can trust in god s promise of peace on earth and goodwill toward men.on a night more than 2,000 years ago,an angel of the lord brought good tidings of great joy:the god of heaven had come to earth, and he would be with us always.
thank you for listening, and merry christmas.

the feast of christmas
it is not easy to pin-point the origins of the christmas feast, today the more important feast of the christmas season in most western christian churches. one can only say for certain that the birth of jesus christ was being celebrated in rome by the year 336 a.d.; afterwards the feast was celebrated in other christian churches throughout the world.
why it was celebrated on december 25th is another question. no date for the birth of jesus can be found in the new testament, which is concerned more with the question "who is jesus?" than the date of his birth. early christian speculation about his birth date was influenced by the symbolism of the changing seasons, then popular in religious thought, which paid careful attention to the equino_es and solstices of the sun. christian scholars speculated that jesus was conceived at the spring equino_ (march 25th) and therefore was born on december 25th, the date of the winter solstice.
in many of the christian churches, march 25th is still the feast of the annunciation, when the angel gabriel announced to mary that she was to be the mother of jesus.
possible impluse for the feast of christmas may have came too from the establishment of the pagan feast of the "unconquered sun-god" by the emperor aurelian in 274 a.d. to be celebrated on december 25, the day of the winter solstice in rome and throughout the empire. in response, christians could celebrate the feast of the "sun of righteousness" (malachi 4,2), jesus christ, who called himself " the light of the world."
